Our History
The Minority Executive
Directors Coalition of King County (MEDC) is the longest standing and
broadest based association of Executive Directors and Program Directors
who are persons of color working in private, non-profit human service
and community development agencies in Seattle/King County. Founded in
1981, MEDC is recognized for its success in sustaining a diverse
multi-racial coalition of individuals who work together to inform,
educate, influence and empower our diverse constituencies in an effort
to work toward social, political and economic equity and justice for
communities of color in King County.
MEDC was founded in 1981, by Bernie Whitebear, Roberto Maestas, Bob
Santos and Larry Gossett, uniting the Asian Pacific American, African
American, Native American and Chicano-Latino communities in advocacy
for people of color.
MEDC is the region’s broadest-based and longest standing
multi-ethnic coalition of it’s kind.
For over 25 years, MEDC has successfully sustained and nurtured
cooperation, unity and networking among its members.
