In The News
There is so much going on around the nation and within our state. Today the Governor of Alabama signed a draconian racial profiling law and “enforcement” scheme that is touted to be WORSE than Arizona’s SB1070. Among many other consequences, the law requires schools to check the immigration status of its own students. More…

US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced the launch of a multi-agency initiative to combat immigration services scams/notario fraud. More…

The states of New York and Massachusetts announced their refusal to participate in the highly controversial “Secure Communities” program and other states are talking about it as well. More…

NWIRP along with other immigrant rights and LGBT groups urge DHS to conduct a review and rehaul their policies around the treatment of LGBT immigrants and people living with HIV who are held in detention centers, citing that these individuals are systematically denied medical care and abused physically, mentally and sexually. More…

In local and tragic news, NWIRP was  sadded to receive confirmation this weekend of the death of Benjamin Roldan Salinas, an immigrant commnity member from Forks, WA.

According to published reports, this incident occurred after an agent with the US Forest Service requested interpretation from US Border Patrol agents. NWIRP has long advocated against immigration enforcement agencies serving as interpreters for law enforcement agencies. We hope this incident will prompt reconsideration of that practice. More…

27th Anniversary a Success!

If you were not able to attend, your gift of $40 in honor of our 27th Anniversary can help us reach our goal of raising $100,000 to promote the rights of immigrants. Give now…

College Bound Scholarship Program

Bookmark and Share

The College Bound Scholarship program provides hope and incentive for students and families who otherwise might not consider college as an option because of its cost.

Low-income 7th and 8th grade students who sign a pledge by June 30 of their 8th grade year are eligible. Students promise to graduate from high school, demonstrate good citizenship, and seek admission to a college or university. Family income will be re-checked and college admission confirmed after the student graduates from high school.

The amount of the scholarship will be based on tuition rates at Washington public colleges and universities and will cover the amount of tuition and fees (plus $500 for books) not covered by other state financial aid awards.
