MEDC Committees

Membership (Active for 2010):

The membership committee is primarily responsible for the recruitment and retention of MEDC members.  The committee ensures the active participation of membership in MEDC activities and events and creates, develops, and maintains new ways to recruit members.  The Committee actively solicits and responds to members’ concerns, suggestions, and initiatives.

MEDC’s Membership committee essential responsibilities and goals:

  1. Participating in MEDC membership development including member recruitment and orientation.
  2. Actively participating in membership activities and events.
  3. Ensuring appropriate servicing and responsiveness to MEDC members through active participation in membership activities.
  4. Create, develop, and maintain new ways to recruit new members.
  5. Actively soliciting and responding to concerns, suggestions, and initiative from members.
  6. Maintain membership database and information.
  7. Responsible for recruiting and maintaining volunteers.

**The Membership Committee meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 3:30PM-5:00PM. Location: TBA

Policy Advocacy Research and Organizing Committee (Active for 2010):

The PARO Committee is responsible for taking on member-driven initiatives relating to public policy developments that impact people of color.  The Committee determines MEDC’s level of participation in advocacy efforts as appropriate and mobilizes members as appropriate.

Resource Development (Active for 2010):

The Resource Development committee is primarily in charge of determining and assessing the effectiveness of fund development strategies in partnership with MEDC staff.  The committee seeks external partnerships and funding resources that ensure MEDC has adequate means to pursue its mission and promotes MEDC in the community.

The Special Event Committee is an ad-hoc committee under Resource Development. Special Events is primarily in charge of coordinating MEDC’s annual awards banquet and other fundraising events.  The committee works with staff to determine event logistics, speakers, venues, entertainment, etc.
